Born in South Tyrol and raised in his parents’ hospitality business, Otmar Michaeler’s early career laid the foundation for his career in the hotel and hospitality industry. He himself worked in the company and experienced how the guest business became a pension and finally became a hotel.
During his business studies in Innsbruck, Otmar Michaeler realized how versatile the field of tourism can be and what opportunities exist in the hotel industry. Michaeler opened up one of these possibilities when he got to know the South Tyrolean hoteliers Andreas and Erich Falkensteiner during his studies. It was clear to all three that someday they would do something together.
After completing his studies Michaeler worked in the tourism consultancy GmbH of Dr. med. Jakob Edinger, whom he met in the course of a seminar. During this time he got to know the holiday hotel industry and also recognised the alternatives to hotels. Two years later, Michaeler founded together with Andreas and Erich Falkensteiner on May 1, 1995 with Michaleler & Partner their first joint venture. As a result, today’s business units Project Development and Hotel Management developed.

As a next step in the further development, a new corporate structure was created in the form of a holding company, which unites all business units under one roof and name: FMTG – Falkensteiner Michaeler Tourism Group. The head office was moved to Vienna.
The market entry into Italy in 2015 with the Hotel & Spa Jesolo, a product of the Falkensteiner Premium Collection, as well as the four-star Lake Garda apartments was another important step on the way to internationalisation of the company. A year later, the first five-star Family Premium Resort Capo Boi was opened in Sardinia and expanded the Falkensteiner Premium Collection.
